March 14, on the official release day of this year’s latest 16th issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday, Web Sunday revealed that a TV anime project based on 53-year-old manga artist Kazuhiro Fujita’s 1997-2006 work Karakuri Circus is now in the works. The TV anime’s official website and Twitter also open today. The news was teased as a “super important announcement” in the magazine’s previous 15th issue last week.

Karakuri Circus (Le Cirque de Karakuri in French) ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1997 to 2006

as Fujita’s second serialization work following Ushio to Tora (1990-1996). It was compiled in 43 tankobon

volumes and has printed over 15 million copies in total. The perfect edition of the manga is also confirmed

to be released soon.

In addition, an open audition for the voice cast of the 11-year-old protagonist Masaru Saiga is planned

as a collaboration project with Human Academy. No previous experience is required and professionals

can also join. And five amateurs chosen from the finalists will be able to join the anime’s voice recording

session as “Gaya” (background chatters). Entries will be accepted until April 30.

The manga author Fujita announced the news on his official Twitter at the same time today.

“‘Karakuri Circus’ will become an anime! Thank you very much! Thank you very much!”

“I have thought this would never be possible. But ‘Never’ does not necessarily mean true.”

“The credit goes to all the readers who have quietly supported ‘Karakuri Circus’ for so long. Thank you!

I am extremely happy!”

Fans Live Their Tokusatsu Dreams at “Kamen Rider World”

Fans Live Their Tokusatsu Dreams at “Kamen Rider World”

Showa and Heisei Era characters meet for limited-time event

Toei Kyoto Studio Park is known for its vintage Japanse village, allowing visitors to experience an old-fashioned Edo town right where many historical dramas are filmed. And for tokusatsu fans, it’s about to get even cooler — as the park opens its limited-time Kamen Rider World experience.

Among the attractions is Kamen Rider Playland, a Heisei Rider-themed park where kids can play on equipment like the Rider Kick Slider and test their skills in a laser bike game.

An Illustrations Gallery will show off Shotaro Ishinomori’s concept art for various Heisei Riders, with both Showa and Heisei memorabilia on display for photo ops. There will also be a reproduction of the secret Kamen Rider Build base.

And, of course, there will be a show! Titled Kamen Rider Build – Heisei Generation Premium Stage, Riders from multiple series will appear together in an elaborate stunt show. Expect Build, Ex-Aid, Ghost, and Drive as regular performers. Other “guest Riders” will drop in throughout the various performances.

Finally, there will be two parties during the event. The “Kamen Rider Legend Party” will let you meet and shake hands with Riders of the Showa and Heisei eras, and the “Kamen Rider Den-O Imagin Party” will feature a monster motif. More information on both events will be available on the Toei Kyoto Studio Park Website.

Kamen Rider World will run from March 17 to July 8.

Tokyo Bay Summons Hokusai (and Daughter) for “Fate/GO” Art Event

Tokyo Bay Summons Hokusai (and Daughter) for “Fate/GO” Art Event

Unique “water mapping” technology will show the Servant painting the bay

Japanese artist Hokusai’s work is synonymous with the landscape of Japan — and thanks to some high-end artistic technology, he will be painting it on Tokyo Bay for a new event.

Titled “hokusai&Tokyo Painting the Waterfront Edomatsuri,” the event will feature a variety of displays, events, and experiences that evoke Hokusai’s art and Edo tradition. High among the anticipated events is a “water mapping” projection featuring Hokusai as depicted in Fate/Grand Order.

Well, sort of.

Hardcore Masters will know that the Foreigner-class Servant is technically both Katsuhiko Hokusai and his daughter, Katsuhiko Oi. Oi, an ukiyo-e artist in her own right, is the main subject of the cards and sprites. But her father appears alongside her as a mascot octopus.

Technicalities aside, father and daughter will both be depicted painting Hokusai’s legendary work on Tokyo Bay, thanks to a water projection screen. The art will be visible from the bay and on board a boat launched for the occasion.

The festival has also put out an art piece in celebration, featuring Hokusai, Oi, and other servants — including Mash Kyrielight front and center.

For an extra fee, fans can board a traditional houseboat and witness the water art while partaking in an all-you-can-eat buffet. On the menu will be tempura, sashimi, and other Edo-era food. The boat will also feature a shop with collaborative Fate/Grand Order goods.

The Edomatsuri takes place March 17.

Shiraito Sake Brewery unveils their latest creation

Anime fans with a taste for sake may already know the name Shiraito — the brewery specializing in anime-themed blends and collectibles to go with them. The “Tiger” sake is advertised as having a refreshing, dry, and “masculine” flavor.

The “Bunny” blend is a mature plum and honey wine with a dry sake aftertaste.

A specially designed twin box (seen above) will be sold at AnimeJapan 2018 from March 24-25. After that, starting in April, individual “Tiger” and “Bunny” bottles will be sold via the brewery, each in their own collectible boxes.
